Security

Security

1.If a file is deleted then it is saved to another backup file .

2.You can make a file read only so that no one can overwrite it.

3.Encryption is when you change the plain English into words that make no sense that can then be turned back into  English so people understand it.

4.Encryption is good because if you need to send a secret message then you can encrypt it so only the person who is meant to see the message can read it.

Mavis Batey

Mavis Batey
She was  employed by London Section to check  columns of  The Times for coded spy messages, in 1940 she was recruited to work as a codebreaker at Bletchley Park. She worked as an assistant to Dilly Knox, and was closely involved in the decoding  before the Battle of Matapan. According to The Daily Telegraph, she became so familiar with the styles of single enemy operators that she could determine that two of them had a girlfriend called Rosa and this insight allowed her to develop a successful technique. In December 1941 she cracked a code between Belgrade and Berlin that enabled them to use a machine that was  previously thought to be unbreakable. While at Bletchley Park she met Keith Batey, a mathematician and fellow codebreaker whom she married in 1942.

What is the internet?

What is the internet

What is ISP?

ISP stands for Internet Service Provider. It provides you with services on the internet such as Virgin Media and BT. It is useful as it gives a range of services and better internet speed. However it can cost lost and may have restrictions.

What is IP?

An IP address is the address for your computer, each address is different and when something is sent to you the IP address means it gets sent to the right place.

How does the internet work?

The internet works by breaking down messages into packages with instructions that show how the message is put back together. The messages are sent in different directions so they cant be tracked. They then arrive at the IP address and are put back together again.

The people of Bletchley Park

Alan Turing

Alan Turing is the most famous worker from Bletchley Park. He led hut eight which was the section for German Naval Cryptanalysis and he said "No one else was doing anything about it so I could have it to myself". During a trip to America to assist American Naval Cryptanalysis his post was taken by Hugh Alexander. He then became a consultant for Cryptanalysis. It is predicted that his work shortened the war in Europe by 2-4 years. After the war ended Alan Turing worked at the National Physical Laboratory.

Joan Clarke

Joan Clarke worked in hut eight in Bletchley Park, which focused on Naval Cryptanalysis, where she eventually became deputy head. She was paid less than the men for her work and believed that her gender prevented her from progressing further. During her time at Bletchley Park she became very good friends with Alan Turing.

BLETCHLEY PARK

Bletchley Park is located in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, England and was built in 1883. It was the central site of UK Government Code and Cypher School. During World War 2 it was a key site for cracking the German codes and without it we probably wouldn't have won the war. During the time it was top secret and if anyone told people about it they would be killed. Although people assume it was mainly men working there, by 1944 75% of workers were women. In 1974  the public was granted better access to Bletchley Park. The film 'The Imitation Game' starring Benedict Cumberbatch was about Alan Turing-one of the key code breakers at Bletchley Park during the war. In addition Tessa Dunlop is writing a book about the women at Bletchley Park as they are not given enough credit .
